Jesse Ray Bivens

Jesse Ray Bivens, 86, of Tyner, NC passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at ECU Health Chowan Hospital.

A native of Bertie County, NC, Jesse was the husband of the late Patricia Jane Cooper Bivens and the son of Robert Ernest Bivens and Nellie Harden Bivens, both deceased.

Survivors include his brother, Roy Bivens and wife, Ann; and many nieces and nephews who would all agree that he was the favorite uncle.

In addition to his wife and parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Bivens, Johnny Bivens, Ernest Bivens, and Carl Bivens; and two step-brothers, Charlie Venters and George Venters.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, Edenton, NC. There will be a memorial service celebrating Jesse’s life scheduled for a later date. Burial will be held privately at West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC.
