Jeffrey Robert Mariani

Jeffrey Robert Mariani, 78, of Hertford, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Mary Mariani, and Jeanne Murray.

Born on June 30, 1948, in the Bronx, New York, Jeff spent much of his life in Maryland before moving to Hertford with his wife, Ann Marie, in 2013. He built his career in the car business, working his way up through the ranks to become a general manager. He was known for his strong opinions, his larger-than-life personality, and the stories that followed him throughout the industry.

Jeff was an avid reader who often finished multiple books each week. He loved playing poker with his friends and telling a good story. Beneath his tough exterior was a deeply feeling man who loved his family. His laughter filled a room, and he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

Jeff and Ann met at her Sweet 16 party and married when they were 21. Their love and shared life remained at the center of his world.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Mariani; his son, Richard Mariani, and his wife, Tamara; his daughter, Jennifer Whitman, and her husband, Doug; his grandchildren, Jake Whitman, Ryan Mariani, Maxwell Whitman, Joshua Mariani, Kaitlin Mariani, and Luke Whitman; his sisters, MaryEllen Hughes, and her husband, Kevin Hughes; and Debra Mariani-Weissenborn and her husband, Harald Weissenborn; and his niece and nephews.

He will be remembered for his stories, his unmistakable laugh, his stubborn spirit, and the love he had for his family. A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. at the Clubhouse at Albemarle Plantation, 371 Albemarle Blvd., Hertford, NC 27944.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a charity that was important to Jeff.
