J.C. Felton

   James C. “J.C.” Felton, 90, of 108 Saddle Ridge Road, Chapel Hill, NC, died Friday, April 19, 2024, in UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

   Mr. Felton was born in Gates County on July 25, 1933, and was the son of the late James Columbus and Meddie Greene Felton. An Army veteran of the Korean War, after his time in service, he began his career spanning 40 years as a shoe salesman at the Kinney Shoes Store in Norfolk, VA. Working his way to Manager, then District Manager, he then advanced to Advertising for Kinney’s Woolworth/Stylco Division, and finally was a Vice-President in Real Estate for Kinney-Footlocker Stores. He was a member of Orange United Methodist Church, a 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. Raised in the fellowship of Eure Baptist Church, no matter where his travels took him, no matter where he lived, he always called “Eure Station” home.

   Surviving is his wife of over 68 years, Carolyn Carter Felton; their daughter, Diane Felton Smith (husband, Gary Robert Smith) of Zeeland, Michigan; three grandsons, Craig James Smith of Chicago, Illinois, Jason Robert Smith of Madison, Wisconsin, and Trey Carter Smith of Zeeland; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends.

   J.C. was loved and loved others well in both word and deed and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

   Funeral services will be held Friday, April 26th, at 11:00 a.m. in Eure Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor. Military Honors will be accorded in the church and a private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
