Jane Parks Nowell, 75, of Edenton, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 16, 2026. Mrs. Nowell was born in Edenton on Friday, October 6th, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Calvin "J.C" Parks and Illa Pearl Parks. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ronald "Ronnie" Nowell and brother-in-law Garry Ervin.
Mrs. Nowell was a bookkeeper with Bertie County Schools for much of her life. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Clothes Closet of Edenton. Jane’s family was very important to her and she loved spending time with them. She enjoyed being social and spending time with friends as well. Jane cared deeply about others and was always willing to lend a hand. She was fun-loving and had a quick wit that brought laughter to many.
Jane was a faithful member of Edenton Baptist Church where she enjoyed being a member of the Sunshine Sunday School class. Later in life, she was an active resident of Edenton House Assisted Living Community and served as President of the Resident Council where she worked hard to serve her fellow residents. Jane recently learned to play chess and loved the challenge and socialness of it. She also enjoyed listening to beach music and oldies and going to the beach.
Surviving are her two daughters, Amy Lee Daugherty and her husband, Tim of Sugar Hill, GA and Dana Lee Cobb and her husband, Will of Windsor; a step-son, Michael Nowell and his wife, Charlotte of Kill Devil Hills; a step-daughter, Stephanie Spencer and her husband Lincoln of Greenville; two sisters, Elaine Ervin of Greenville and Jo Carol West and her husband, Gordon of Taylorsville, NC; six grandchildren, Tyler Spencer and his wife, Caroline, Joseph White, Kelly Daugherty, Maddoc Nowell, Airoux Daugherty, and Charlynn Nowell; and many nieces and nephews
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 25th from 3:00 to 4:00 pm at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Koby Strawser officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton.
