Jane Barrett Murray McCoy

Jane Barrett Murray McCoy, 81, of Hertford, NC, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, in Brookdale of Elizabeth City.

Mrs. McCoy was born in Mercer County, NJ on February 28, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Helen Barrett and John Cornell Murray, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Capt. John Titus, US Navy Retired.

Jane graduated from Trenton State College and later received her master’s degree from Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ. A retired educator having taught for nearly 30 years, she later owned and operated The Goddard School of Early Childhood Education. Upon her move to Hertford, she enjoyed membership in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church and was a former member of the Hertford Rotary Club and volunteered in many organizations at Albemarle Plantation in Hertford.

Surviving is her husband of 40 years, Harry McCoy; four daughters, Amy Titus of Churchville, PA, Jody Donnelly (Michael) of Bayville, NJ, Jennifer Smolenski (Nathan) of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, and Tara Giovenco (Joseph) of Lafayette, CO; sister, Barbara “Bambi” Vaughan of Hertford, NC, brother, Michael Murray of Boulder, CO, eight grandchildren, Jack, Matt, Joelle, Mickey, Martha, Kian, Devon, and Posy; and three great-grandchildren, Ella Mae, Crew, and Ayla (and two due to be born).

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Friends may visit with the family in the parish hall immediately following the service. Jane will be interred in The Ewing Church Cemetery in Ewing, NJ.
