James Chaddwick Trotman, 52, of Hertford, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Born on April 2, 1974 in Elizabeth City, NC, James was the husband of Shannon Marie Mayne Trotman and the son of the late Lyndia Dianne Toler Trotman and Henry Reginald Trotman, who survives.

James was an EMT-I with the Perquimans County EMS for more than twelve years. He was a long-time member of the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department. James was the proud owner/operator of Trotman Services providing local tree service for many years. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains of West Virginia, 4-wheeling with his friends and family. James’ true passion was spending every waking hour with his children, he loved them dearly. He was a friend to everyone he would meet and would do anything for anyone in need. James was truly a good man and will be missed by all that knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Shannon Trotman; father, Henry Trotman and his wife, Connie; five children, Kayti Dianne Trotman, Raymond Tyler Trotman, Lyndia Makayla Trotman, Ayden Matthew Trotman, and Shelby Matthews; three, grandchildren, Revyn Olivia Matthews, Aurielle Sunniva Matthews, and Hazel Bale; and four siblings, Levie Reginald Trotman, Gerald Dwane Trotman and wife, Theresa Margaret Trotman, Doris Dianne “DeeDee” Armstrong and husband, Carlos Armstrong, and Frances Louise Swain and husband, Alex Swain.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, Hertford, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elizabeth City, NC. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Elizabeth City, NC.
