James Carlton "Jim" Hollowell, Sr.

James Carlton “Jim” Hollowell, Sr., 85, of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at the Moore County Regional Hospital.

A native of Tyner, NC, Jim was the husband of 63 years to Faye Moore Hollowell and the son of Haywood Thomas Hollowell, Sr. and Helen Eason Hollowell, both deceased. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Leary and husband, Tommy Leary, and Peggy Hollowell.

After Jim and Faye’s marriage in 1962, they relocated to Florence, South Carolina where Jim started his railroad career with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and Faye continued her banking career with Guaranty Bank. Jim retired, after 34 years of service, from CSX Transportation in 1995 with Faye retiring from BB&T in 2002 after 34 years in the banking industry.

Upon retirement Jim and Faye enjoyed spending time at their second home in Kill Devil Hills, on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, with family and lifelong friends. Jim rejoiced in serving others , whether it was helping friends and neighbors with household renovations. His SPIRIT in Heaven will always be present in “OBX”!

Survivors include his wife, Faye of the home; son, James Carlton “Carl” Hollowell, Jr. and wife, Michelle Wood Hollowell of West End, NC; grandchildren, Alexandria Diamond and husband, Richard of Carthage, NC, Dalton Hollowell and wife, Jessica of Orem, UT, Colby Hollowell and wife, Elena of West End, NC, and Wyatt Hollowell of Nicholasville, KY; great grandchildren, Carson, Peyton and Melanie Diamond of Carthage, NC, Ali and Colton Hollowell of Orem, UT, and Ruth Hollowell of West End, NC; sister, Judy Winslow of Belvidere, NC; and brother Haywood Thomas Hollowell, Jr. and wife Sandra of Raleigh, NC.

In addition to Jim’s immediate family, he leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and those too close to be called “friends”, reaching from his original home in Tyner, North Carolina, into South Carolina, Texas and as far as Utah.

A graveside service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at Beaver Hill Cemetery.
