James Lester “Jim” Doubts, Sr., 79, of 126C Sign Pine Road, Tyner, NC, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023 in his home where he was cared for by his family.
Jim was born in West Chester, PA on March 1, 1944 and was the son of the late Lester Charles and Bertha Louise Lynch Doubts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Jones and by a nephew, Norman.
A retired machinist with Moon Engineering where he worked for over 30 years, he specialized in ship repair. After retiring, he and his wife co-owned and operated Sew E-Z Fabrics & Sewing Machines in Virginia Beach and worked together in exhibits at area craft shows, she making quilts, and he showing his woodworking products. Other enjoyments in life included his membership in the Portsmouth Moose Lodge and participating for his daughter and granddaughter in “Jobs Daughters”. He had proudly served in the United States Air Force.
Time with family was so important to Jim. Whether it was the enjoyment of visiting relatives in Pennsylvania, or the shorter visits to family in the Tidewater area, every visit was the chance to make a memory. And he loved making memories.
Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Freida Ammann Doubts; four children, James Lester “J.L.” Doubts Jr. (Traci) of Durham, Jim Bray (Kim) of Hertford, Eugene “E.J.” Bray (Tammie) of Chesapeake, VA, and Melissa Pitts (Doug Murray) of Edenton; a sister, Barbara Desario (Tony), and brothers, Charles Wilson (Joyce) and Bob Little (Bonnie), all of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Courtney, Cole, Lindsey, Tyler, Dalton, and Austin; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Peggy, Pauline, DeeDee, Tricia, Julie, Danny, Brian, Lynn Marie, Michael, and Tracey; and many other extended family members including his special great-nieces and great-nephew, Laura, Tristan, Tracia, Jamie, and Derrick. And last, but not least, he leaves behind his “fur baby” Chloe, who already misses his presence.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life memorial service on Saturday, May 6th, at 2:00 p.m. at the residence. Prior visits to the family at the residence are welcomed.
For those wishing to remember Jim in a special way, the family suggests a contribution in his memory to the any chapter of the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
