James B. Archer

   James Belmont Archer, 88, of 129 Perkins Road, Gatesville, NC, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Archer was born in Norfolk, VA on January 22, 1934, and was the last surviving of nine children born to the late George Addison and Alice Virginia Davis Archer. In addition to his parents and siblings, in 2012 he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Simons Archer.

   A retired fire fighter with the City of Norfolk where he served for 33 years, he was a member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF Local 68). A veteran, he had served in the US Marine Corps and in the US Army Reserves.

   Surviving are two children, Nancy Archer Dawson (Chris) of Gatesville and Jerry Belmont Archer (April) of Greeneville, TN; four grandchildren, Kayla Dawson, Brenda A. Edwards (Dustin), Amanda Archer (Angel), and Joseph Archer (Chelsea); and six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Alyssa, Aaron, Christine, Walker, and Ember.

   Memorial gatherings for family and friends are being planned for October and will be updated to this obituary when complete. Friends may visit with the family at the residence.
