Henry Grant Wilson, Jr.

   Henry Grant “Son” Wilson, Jr., 80, of 5051 Deer Forest Road, Suffolk, VA, died Friday, October 6, 2023 in his home.

   Mr. Wilson was born in Gates County on October 21, 1942 and was the son of the late Henry G., Sr. and Mattie Lee Owens Wilson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alline Bridger Wilson; and by his sister, Bertie Lee Matthews.

   A retired automobile mechanic, he worked for Mike Duman Auto Sales in Suffolk for 15 years and prior to that was employed with Mid-Way Chevrolet in Sunbury. An avid NASCAR fan, his favorite was number 3, Dale Earnhardt.  He was a member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church.

   Surviving are his children, Jerry Ray Wilson (Kathy) of Clayton, NC and Amanda W. Thornley (Jeff) of South Mills, NC; and his brother, Jimmy R. Wilson (Shirley) of Suffolk. Also surviving are Alline’s children, Jay Byrd (Rose) and Deena Cordero (Tony), both of Suffolk and Karen Ward (Ryan) of Corapeake. Together Henry and Alline shared 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his constant and loyal canine companion, Bullet.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and will be officiated by longtime family friend, The Rev. Joe Buck. The burial will follow in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to Rebecca Lee who provided transportation and medical guidance to their loved one during his battle with cancer.
