George Franklin Miller Jr.

George Franklin Miller Jr., 58, of Grandy, NC passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2025 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City, NC. He was born on October 7, 1966 to the late George F. Miller, Sr. and Charlotte Miller.

A devoted family man, George is survived by his wife of 33 years, Amy Mason Miller, son George F. Miller III (“Corey”) of Courtland, Va., step-son Derek Wetherington, granddaughter Kayleigh Wetherington of Suffolk, VA, who adored her Papa G. Brother, Brian Miller (Kathy Peters) of Franklin, VA, sisters Joan “Sissy” Burgess (Tim) of Franklin, VA, Martha Ann Miller of Franklin, brother-in-law Travis Mason of Suffolk, VA and his beloved fur-baby sidekick, Morgan.

George was a contractor for underground utilities and had been in the cable field for over 30 years. Outside of his profession, he loved to be on the water fishing and he found great joy treasure hunting at yard sales, flea markets, thrift stores, auctions and antique malls. He was a collector of many things, especially paper weights, marbles, glass and anything vintage. He was a faithful San Francisco 49’ers fan and loved to watch UFC, MMA and bare knuckle fighting. George will be remembered for his witty humor, telling jokes and telling you like it is, whether you liked it or not. He was a die-hard Republican and huge Trump supporter. He was also a wonderful cook; his famous pimento cheese was always a crowd favorite along with his wife’s frequent request for scalloped potatoes with ham and cheese. His smashburgers couldn’t be beat, as well as, his dad’s favorite, pineapple cake, that he made every holiday.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the ICU and palliative care staff along with comfort care nurse, Mary Johnson and volunteer Willie Mae Overton at Sentara Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local animal shelter. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at millerfhc.com
