George Ellis Drawdy, 84, of 1226 Rocky Hock Landing Road, Edenton, NC, died Friday, June 3, 2022 in his home where he was cared for by his family.

Mr. Drawdy was born in Volusia County, Florida on June 5, 1937, and was the son of the late Arnold James Drawdy and Rena Mae Price Drawdy Locke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Brown Drawdy.

Mr. Drawdy had a long career in the grocery business, coming to Edenton for the Winn-Dixie chain, and later owning and operating Rocky Hock Grocery. Community involvement was important to him and included his membership in Bethel Baptist Church and service in the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department. After moving from the Bethel community to Chowan County, he attended Rocky Hock Baptist Church and was a member of the Rocky Hock Ruritans. George was mindful of and often expressed how much he appreciated the Bethel and Rocky Hock folks embracing him and his family as they worshipped and worked together.

An Air Force veteran, he was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Proud of the Flag, one hangs from his porch, and one will drape his casket.
