Evelyn Cartwright Overton

Evelyn Cartwright Overton, 85, of Hertford, NC passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Evelyn was born in Perquimans County, NC on October 10, 1939. She was the wife of 64 years to the late James Overton and the daughter of Dockey Cartwright and Fannie Dail Stallings, both deceased.

Survivors include her two daughters, Ann Ferrell of Camden, NC, and Kay Hooker and husband, Charlie of Elizabeth City, NC; two grandchildren, Brandon Ferrell and wife, Katie, and Casey Harris and husband, Bruce; five great grandchildren, Savannah, Chris, Elena, Paisley, and Emma; brother, Fenton Cartwright; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband and parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sisters, Katie Cartwright, Fannie Colson, Annebelle Squires, Margarite Gray, Myrtle Askew, and Betty Boyce; and brothers, Wayland Cartwright, Horace Cartwright, and Oliver Cartwright.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2025 at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, Hertford, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 in the Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel, Hertford, NC with Pastor Robert Ganglfinger officiating. A private burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Elizabeth City.
