Eugene Elvin Byrum, Jr.

   Eugene Elvin “Gene” Byrum, Jr. 75, of 814 Happy Home Road, Tyner, NC, died Monday, April 22, 2024, in ECU Health Chowan Hospital, Edenton.

   Gene was born in Chowan County on January 25, 1949, and was the son of the late Eugene E., Sr. and Kathleen Waff Byrum.

   For many years Gene worked as the Shop Foreman at Winslow-Blanchard Ford in Hertford and later at Crossroad’s Auto Parts in Tyner. He was raised in the fellowship of Center Hill Baptist Church.

   Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie Parsons (husband, Jason), and Heather Cahoon, both of Tyner; two sisters, Sondra B. Hare of Tyner and Kathy B. Land (husband, Harry) of Durham; four grandchildren, Brooke Parsons Ward (husband, Tyler), Cole Parsons (wife, Sarah), Summer Cahoon, and Skhi Benton; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Hunter, and Landon Ward, Lyla Bishop, and Jayden White; and many, many cousins from both the Waff and Byrum families.

   Graveside services will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Byrum. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or other times at the residence.
