Elizabeth "Betty" White Jones

Elizabeth “Betty” Elaine White Jones, 73, of Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC, passed away on April 14, 2026, at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City, NC.

Betty was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose life was centered around her family, her faith, and her community. She was a graduate of Perquimans County High School and East Carolina University. Betty dedicated many years of service to the College of The Albemarle, where she served as a faculty member and Program Coordinator in the Nursing Program until her retirement.

A native of Hertford, Betty later made her home in Elizabeth City with her husband, John Jones, and daughter, Heather Conway Jordan, before recently returning to Hertford. She found great joy in her community, especially at the Perquimans County Center for Active Living, and was a familiar and friendly face at her grandchildren’s school and sporting events—rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on from the bleachers and connect with others. Betty had a passion for travel, both locally and abroad, where she created lasting memories and embraced new experiences.

Betty was a faithful member of Berea Baptist Church, where she actively took on many leadership roles and responsibilities such as designing the annual raffle baskets and setting up for church events. She also cherished time spent with her many friends, enjoying regular lunch and dinner gatherings, and faithfully served others through the Meals on Wheels program. Betty especially loved celebrating holidays, visiting thrift stores, and spending time at the beach with her family.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Heather Jones Conway Jordan and husband Kevin of Hertford, NC; her cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth, Evan, and Easton Conway of Hertford, and Dylan Jordan of Elizabeth City, NC; her brother, Joseph Towe White, Jr. and wife Mary of Hertford; and her sister, Carolyn Anne White Hodgins and husband Donald of Powhatan, VA. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Carolyn Madre and husband Lenon of Elizabeth City, NC, Sylvia Whitehead of Hertford, NC, and Donna Madeline Jones of Hertford, NC; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, John M. Jones; her parents, Joseph Towe White, Sr. and Elizabeth “Anne” Rogerson White; her father and mother-in-law J. B. Jones and Anna Spangler Jones, her son-in-law, Chris Conway; and her grandson, Ethan Jordan.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Berea Baptist Church, 2033 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Berea Baptist Church Life Center.
