William Edward Leicester, 69, of 311 Artie Street, Hertford, NC, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024 in UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus.
Mr. Leicester was born in Perquimans County on December 11, 1954, and was the son of the late William Joque Leicester and Alma Davenport Leicester. A graduate of Perquimans County High School, he retired as a Business Service Technician from Sprint following 29 years of employment. An active member of Hertford Baptist Church, he had served as Chairman of the Deacons, as a Sunday school teacher, on several committees including Audio/Visual, and was active with NC Baptist Men. Other community involvement included service with the Perquimans County Rescue Squad and the Hertford Volunteer Fire Department where he had proudly served as its Captain and had a total of 20 years of service. For many years he enjoyed coaching baseball in both Little League and the Babe Ruth League, as well as football at Perquimans County High School.
Surviving is his wife of nearly 48 years, Cindy Giambra Leicester; his daughter, Heather Leicester Pittman (husband, Scottie) of Wilson; his son, Matthew Leicester (wife, Hope) of Hertford; his granddaughter whom he always called his “angel”, Alyssa Rose Leicester of Hertford; and his brother, Raymond Guy McCracken (wife, Pat) of Ahoskie.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by his pastor, the Rev. Dario Ruvarac. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the residence.
