Obituary

Earl Bundy, Jr., 79, of Roper, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, with his family by his side at The Carrolton of Plymouth after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Born on July 15, 1946, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Earl Bundy, Sr. and Marjorie Overton Bundy. Earl retired as a machinist with Weyerhaeuser/Domtar and took great pride in his work there for over 42 years. He earned an Associates Degree and was a dedicated member and former Deacon of Roper Baptist Church. He also faithfully served his community as a former member of the Roper Volunteer Fire Department.

Earl had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting, and cherished the time he spent with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Bundy and Horace Bundy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Lou Goodwin Bundy; his son, Curtis Bundy and wife Tammy of Jamesville, NC; and his daughters, Heather Woodard and husband Drew of Hertford, NC, and Kristy McLellan and husband Scott of Monson, Maine. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Baker and husband Julian of Belvidere, NC; his brothers, Billy Bundy and wife Toni of Hertford, NC, David Bundy of Camden, NC, Paul Bundy and wife Rachel of Elizabeth City, NC and a sister-in-law, Ginger Bundy of Elizabeth City, NC. Earl also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Earl was a proud grandfather of nine grandchildren: Kayla Howell (Daniel), Zach Bundy (Emily), Riley Bundy, Morgan Ellis (Caden), Mary Charles Woodard, Matthew Woodard, Ryan McLellan, Bailey Shackleford (Austin), and Bryce Davenport. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Tate Trueblood and Teddy Shackleford.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, NC. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel, Edenton, N.C. with Rev. Howard Simpson officiating. A graveside service will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Elizabeth City, NC.

Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to Roper Baptist Church, 44 Griffin Road, Roper, NC 27970, The Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601, or to a charity of one’s choice.
