Douglas Fenton Johnson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Fenton Johnson, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Douglas passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the age of 78. Born in Windsor, NC, on October 7, 1947, Douglas was a resident of Elizabeth City, NC, where he lived a life full of warmth, adventure, and love.

Douglas is survived by his loving children: his sons, John Johnson and wife Michelle, James Everett and wife Sandy, daughters Kristy Johnson, Kendra Johnson (Scott), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Douglas was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Johnson, parents, Jesse David Johnson and Lillian Johnson, as well as his siblings.

Mr. Johnson was a fleet maintenance manager for Perdue in Robersonville for 15 years before starting J & J Home Improvements which he ran for 22 years before retiring. A successful entrepreneur, Douglas was known for his hardworking nature and innovative spirit. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a passionate fisherman and outdoorsman, spending countless hours immersed in the serenity of nature, a passion he shared with his family and friends.

To honor Douglas's life, a Celebration of Life service will be held on September 12, 2026, at 3:00p.m. at the Townsouth Church of Christ, located at 2224 Peartree Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Paster Brad Giffin will officiate the service.
