Dorothy Dail Riddick

Dorothy Dail Riddick, 100, of 1477 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026 at Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation. Through the years, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to sew and was an amazing cross-stitch artist; whereby, she gifted her handmade treasures with those she loved. Hand-made heirlooms of embroidered pillowcases, baby blankets, and embroidered tablecloths were made with love for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many friends. Gifting and serving others is a true reflection of the love and dedication she devoted to her friends and family.

Born on January 26, 1926, in Perquimans County, Dorothy spent her life rooted in the Hertford community which she cherished. She was a sweet and gentle lady who found her greatest joy in her family. Her kindness, warm spirit, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a lifetime member of Burgess Baptist Church in Hertford and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Mrs. Riddick was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Roxie Dail; her husband, Earl J. Riddick; son, Joseph Earl Riddick; grandson, Zeb Copeland; son-in-law, George Dawson; brother, Jessie Dail and his wife, Louise; and sister, Barbara Ann Rominger.

She leaves to cherish her memory to her son, Donald Riddick and wife Connie of Hertford; her daughter, Gloria Hansen of Altoona, Pennsylvania; and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Riddick of Hertford. Also, surviving are four grandchildren - Will Hansen and wife Jessica; Rebecca Dobson and husband Brad; Susan Buckner and husband Brad; and Dee Winslow and husband Matt; five great-grandchildren - Sophia, Dylan, Scarlett, Mattison and Kaylee Winslow, and a brother-in-law, Ken Rominger.

A visitation will be held at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 11:00 am - 12:00 noon. Following the visitation, there will be a private burial at the Sutton/Riddick Family Cemetery, 1425 Harvey Point Road Hertford, NC 27944. Friends may visit with the family immediately following the graveside service and at other times at the home of Donald and Connie Riddick, 1475 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Albemarle Hospice, 1129 Horseshoe Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
