Dorothy Lee Davis Spruill Rice

   Dorothy Lee Davis Spruill Rice, 89, of Edenton, NC, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, in her home.

   Mrs. Rice was born in Portland, AR on July 6, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Clyde Bailey Davis and Audrey Pearl Thomas Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Evan D. Spruill and John M. Rice, her son, Danny Lee Spruill, and by brothers, Jack, Edward, Clyde, and Billy Carroll Davis.

   A retired seamstress from the former Don Juan Manufacturing in Hertford, she had attended and enjoyed fellowship in First Presbyterian Church of Edenton and in years past been active in the Chowan Senior Center.

   Surviving are her two daughters, Doris Spruill Berryman (Greg) and Lawonda Spruill Jennings (Merrill), both of Hobbsville; a sister, Jean Caudle of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Ernie Davis of Tyler, TX; two grandsons, Nathan G. Berryman (Karen) and Matthew B. Berryman (Patrice); and four great-grandchildren, Brent, Tyler, Gage, and Lacey Berryman.

   Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Beaver Hill Cemetery and will be conducted by Dr. Jeff Russell. Friends may visit with the family at the gravesite immediately following the service.

   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Nutrition Program (Meals on Wheels), Albemarle Commission, 512 South Church Street, Hertford, NC 27944.
