Dick Spruill

   Danny Lee "Dick" Spruill, 69, of Beech Springs Road, Hertford, NC, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   A Perquimans County native, Dick was born on December 4, 1953 and was the son of the late Harry Lee Spruill and Cassie Winslow Spruill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Diane Spruill.

   A retired farmer, in earlier years he was active in the Belvidere-Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Among his many enjoyments in life included his love of riding his scooter and talking on the phone.

   Surviving is his sister, Linda Godfrey (husband, Terry) of Belvidere; two nephews, Benjamin Godfrey (wife, Dare) of Raleigh and Brandon Godfrey (wife, Mary Allen) of Lincolnton; a great-nephew, Canon Godfrey; and other extended family members and friends.

   Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by Pastor Jeremy Pugh. A private burial will be in the Winslow Family Cemetery, Beech Springs Road, Hertford. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home immediately following the chapel service on Monday, and other times at Linda and Terry's home, 339 Turnpike Road, Belvidere.
