David E. Meiggs

David E. Meiggs, age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, hard work, and deep devotion to those he cherished most.

Born on September 7, 1956, David built a life rooted in love for his family and integrity. For 49 wonderful years, he was the devoted husband of Tina Meiggs. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support — a partnership that stood as an example to all who knew them.

David was the proud father of three daughters: Mindy Drew (husband Mickey), Ashley Cole (husband Chuck), and Kari Hopkins (husband Mike). His greatest joy was being “Pawpaw” to his grandchildren: Coley and Ethan; Gavin; and Michael and Sophia. He loved his family beyond all else and treasured every moment spent with them.

He is also survived by his beloved siblings: Ray Meiggs (Robert), Tami Griffin (David), and Jami Schuster (Bob), as well as many cherished nieces and nephews, along with extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

A proud graduate of North Carolina State University, David earned his degree from the School of Forestry in 1978. His time at NC State shaped both his career and a lifelong passion for the Wolfpack. He was a devoted supporter of all NC State athletics and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his teams. His love for NC State Wolfpack was something he proudly shared with family and friends.

Before completing his bachelor’s degree, David earned his Associate’s Degree from College of the Albemarle, where he was honored with the Presidential Award — a reflection of his leadership, character, and commitment to excellence.

For 46 years, David was a self-employed logger, building not only a respected career but also lasting relationships throughout the forestry community. He was an active member of the North Carolina Forestry Association and the North Carolina Loggers Association, where he advocated for and supported the logging profession he loved so much.

His commitment to service extended far beyond his profession. David faithfully served as a deacon at multiple churches in the area, living out his faith through leadership and quiet acts of kindness. He also dedicated himself to his community through education, serving on the Camden County School Board, including time as chairperson. Additionally, he was involved with the North Carolina School Boards Association, working to support schools and students across the state.

David loved new adventures, traveling, and especially the thrill of finding waterfalls. Whether exploring nature, working in the woods, or sitting around the table with family, he embraced life fully and with enthusiasm. His sense of humor, warm spirit, and steady presence will be deeply missed.

David lived a life full of love and laughter. His legacy is one of faith, family, service, and hard work — a life well lived and well loved. He will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
