David Vernon Higginbotham, III

   David Vernon Higginbotham III, 87, of 149 Salmon Creek Lane, Merry Hill, NC, died Sunday, July 2, 2023 in ECU Health Medical Center, Greenville.

   Mr. Higginbotham was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 6, 1935 and was the only child born to the late David Vernon Higginbotham, Jr. and Margaret Martha Moore Higginbotham Kelly.

   Retired from Bell Telephone Lab Research, where he worked on both product and service development, he later worked and retired from the Research Department of the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a charter member of Cornerstone Church.

   Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Ann Maria Parkerson Higginbotham, their children, Julie Ann Higginbotham Arnold (husband, Richard) of Tacoma, Washington and Paul Leroy “Hans” Higginbotham of Merry Hill; three granddaughters, Virginia Allison Arnold (husband, Benjamin McDonald) and Olivia Anne Arnold, both of Seattle, Washington, and Madeleine Amelia Arnold of Tacoma; and one great-grandson, Quinn McArnold.

   A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. in Cornerstone Church, 617 Soundside Road, Edenton.
