Daryl Wayne Johnson, 56, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina passed into the Loving arms of the Lord, Monday, January 26, 2026, at Chesapeake Regional Hospital, Chesapeake, Va.
Daryl was born in Pasquotank County, April 18th, 1969. He was preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Mattie Johnson, and his brother Johnnie Johnson Jr, as well as his beloved nephew C.W. Betts (who he loved as a son).
Daryl is survived by his wife Becky Ward Johnson, who he loved unconditionally with all of his heart. They brought each other the greatest joy in life. Their love had no regrets.
Besides his wife Becky and her children, Jackson, Patrick, Sherri & Corey (son in law),J.T., and his grandson Quincy, who loved to call him pop pop Daryl.
He was survived also by his brothers and sisters. Janet Swain , Walter & (Diana) Johnson of TN, David & (Frances) Johnson, Barbara & (Wade) Betts, and countless lifelong friends, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Niece's, Nephews, Grandchildren, fishing buddies, and friends that loved him like family.
Daryl worked at Camden County bus garage as a mechanic for 25 years. He loved his family at the bus garage, and they loved him, for who and how he was. His love for mechanic work will live on because He taught so many people how to fix things, This was his passion. He was always working on cars or talking about them. He enjoyed NASCAR especially his idol Dale Earnhardt Sr. His hobbies were fishing, And he enjoyed the garden and watching things grow while on his dad’s Super C International Tractor. His work ethic was instilled in him by his dad. He was fond of the old Westerns, especially John Wayne, and Gunsmoke. He fell in love with Becky’s dog, Sallie. Sallie already misses him and waits for him at the door.
Daryl was one that always knew what he wanted in life and did not wavier, and for that he was “A Rock” to so many people. He was someone you could count on. When anyone asked for his opinion, they were ready for the honest truth.
Daryl was real in a way that was rare; what you saw is what you got. He never gave up. He will be missed; We love you, Daryl.
A celebration of Daryl’s life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, From 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Dream Hunt & Fishing Program at The Carolina Center 110 Corporate Dr., Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
