Daniel Lee Mathews

Daniel Lee Mathews, a beloved resident of Hertford, NC, peacefully passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Daniel was born on August 1, 1955, in Edenton, NC, and was the son of the late Charlie Edward Mathews and Nellie Lee White Mathews.

Along with his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his spouse, Elaine Meher Mathews, his brother Richard Edward Mathews Sr., and his baby brother Charles Eldon Mathews.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. Daniel is survived by his step-children: Daniel Herba, James Herba, and Michelle Waggoner and her husband Jack. He is also mourned by his siblings, Charles Hurley Mathews and his wife Betty, and Betty Jean Mathews. Daniel was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

His extended family includes his sister in law, Pearl Mathews, nephews, Richard Edward Mathews Jr. and his son Austin Mathews (Allison) and their child Presley Mathews, Chad Mathews with his two children, and Paul Mathews and his eight children. Nieces Kay Mathews Hall with her two children, Crystal Lynn Stokley and her two children, and Ashley Dale Reichle with her three children.

Services for Daniel will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, November 15, 2026 at Cedarwood Cemetery.
