C.T. Mansfield

On Friday, March 22, 2024, Charles Thomas “C.T.” Mansfield, 92, of Tyner, NC, passed away peacefully at home.

Born in Perquimans County on November 16, 1931, he was the son of the late Freeman Noah and Margaret Barber Mansfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Ruth Boyce Mansfield and his siblings, Rachel Mansfield Mulik, Willie Mae Mansfield Shannon, Irene Mansfield Hurdle, Odus Mansfield, and Othus Mansfield.

Mr. Mansfield retired from United Piece Dye Works as the 3rd shift Supervisor in the Examining Department. He held many positions at his church, Great Hope Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon Emeritus. An Army veteran, he served in the Korean War where he was a tank operator in the 2nd Armored Division, [Hell on Wheels]. He enjoyed growing fruit and vegetables and kept the freezers and cabinets full of home-grown goodness. In his later years, he enjoyed frying peanuts and giving them away in jelly jars. But, if you wanted more peanuts, you had to bring his jelly jars back!

Surviving are his sons, Bill Mansfield (Pat) of Hertford and Martin Mansfield (Debra) of Tyner; his four grandchildren whom he and his wife doted on to no end, Betsy Chappell (Chad) of Tyner, William Mansfield of Hertford, John Mansfield (Samantha) of Mebane, and Lisa Beacham of New Bern; and his five great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Abbie Chappell and Benjamin, Lovie Jayne and Maverick Mansfield. Also surviving is his brother, John Freeman Mansfield (Lenna) of Hertford, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and special thanks to his caregivers, Essie Revell and Melvin Barrington Jr.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 am in Great Hope Baptist Church, 131 Great Hope Church Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by his pastor, Marcus Pond. Burial will follow in the Boyce-Lane Cemetery on Center Hill Road, Tyner. Friends may visit with the family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the graveside service and other times at the residence.
