Constance Jacqueline Jalbert "Jackie" Geitzenauer

Constance Jacqueline “Jackie” Geitzenauer, of Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA.

Jackie was born on May 3, 1942, in Lewiston, Maine to the late Donat and Rolande Jalbert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Jalbert, and a sister, Helene Knowles (Phillip, deceased).

She battled many health issues with her signature positive attitude, always joyfully working towards getting better – praise God, she made it. She is healed. A graduate from Lisbon High School in Lisbon, Maine, she went on to get an associate’s degree in education from Gorham State Teacher’s College. After a short stint as a teacher and a stay-at-home mom, she went on to work in the Finance Department for the City of Virginia Beach, VA where she would ultimately retire after 30 years.

Jackie and her husband, Paul Geitzenauer, both bigtime Elvis fans, were married at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas on November 6, 2008. A convalidation ceremony was later held and celebrated in the Catholic Church with friends and family. The two of them shared a very loving, devoted, and magical marriage. Paul and his beautiful wife enjoyed traveling, dancing, visiting with friends and family, and doing things for others.

Jackie is survived by her husband, Paul Geitzenauer; a sister, Irene Kimball (Dave); a daughter, Michele Maurer (John); a son, Jeff Asselin (Margie); and a stepson, Tom Davis (Nan). She loved her six grandchildren: Joshua Midgett, John Midgett (Lynsey), Delton Toney, Nicholas Neal, Jordan Asselin, and Lucas Asselin as well as her one great-granddaughter, Aurora Midgett, and several nieces and nephews.

Bringing her so much joy, “Nana” was beyond proud of all her grandchildren. She taught them life skills like sewing, gardening, cooking and making her infamous “trash”. She enjoyed playing games and especially cards; extremely competitive, she always aimed to “shoot the moon” in hearts. She always bragged proudly about them to her friends.

Jackie loved to sew, making matching family swimsuits, doll clothes, and custom outfits for the grandbabies. She lovingly passed her sewing knowledge to her daughter and granddaughter and was always available to answer questions and solve challenges. She ultimately developed a passion for quilting. She hand-made over 50 quilts and generously gave most of them to family, friends, and her beloved Shriner’s hospital. Jackie was a Past High Priestess of Zulekia Court No. 35 of the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine of North America. She actively served on many committees, both locally and nationally. Jackie was also a Past Royal Directress National President in the Royal Order of Jesterettes. Her charming eccentric personality shined through in her commitment to these two organizations and brought many happy hours of love and friendships across the country.

Jackie’s love of people shone through in everything she did. She unselfishly gave and was compassionate for others. She lived a charmed life, blessed by good fortune and great friends. You could always count on Jackie to lift your spirits with her infectious positivity and warm smile. She never missed a birthday or anniversary. May her heart shine bright in all who knew and loved her.

A service to honor Jackie’s life will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Elizabeth City, NC. Family will receive guests at 10:00 a.m. and the Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow, including light refreshments.
