Clemma Layden Bunch

Clemma Layden Bunch, 96, of Selwin Road, Belvidere, NC, died Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Wake Forest.

Mrs. Bunch was born in Perquimans County on November 27, 1927, and was one of eight children born to the late Archie Elfred and Beatrice Evelyn Copeland Layden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Roy C. Bunch; by sisters, Doris Monds, Sylvia Miller, Helen Riddick, and Adelaide Hendrix; and by brothers, Oliver, and Carlton Layden.

A homemaker, Mrs. Bunch was a longtime and faithful member of Warwick Baptist Church and had been active in the W.M.U. and the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

Surviving are two children, Rhonda Bunch Hare and husband, Jerry, of Wake Forest, and Rodney C. Bunch and wife, Lynne, of Kill Devil Hills; a sister, Marlene Bass of Hobbsville; three grandsons, Jeffrey B. Hare and wife, Julie, David W. Hare and wife, Jennifer, and Timothy W. Bunch and wife, Teague; and four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Hare, John David Hare, Kailyn Hare, and Silas Bunch.

She also leaves behind her church family and many nieces, nephews, and extended members of both the Layden and Bunch families who will long remember her humble nature, her quiet and unassuming demeanor, and the picture perfect, sought-after “peach jacks” that she hand-rolled, pinched together, and cooked for church dinners and family reunions.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 3rd, at 2:00 p.m. in Warwick Baptist Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Stanley Hare. A private burial will follow in the Bunch Family Cemetery near the home. Friends may visit with the family in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Warwick Baptist Church, in care of Cindy Harrell, 433 Gliden Road, Hobbsville, NC 27946.
