Clara Smith Lane

   Clara Smith Lane, a loving servant of her Lord, passed away on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, just four days prior to her 95^th birthday.

   Born in Perquimans County on February 5, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Warren Haywood and Sarah Pritchard Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Calvin John Lane; and her son-in-law, Kenneth George Spitzform.

   She was formerly employed as an office nurse and secretary of Doctors T.P. Brinn, John F. Weeks, and W.H. White, and although she enjoyed her work, her real love was being a wife, mother, and homemaker.

   Surviving is her sister, Eula Smith, and nephew, Andy Smith and family, of Hertford; her daughter, Dianne Spitzform of Fernandina Beach, FL; grandsons, Erik Spitzform (Samantha) of Stamford, England, and Bryan Spitzform (Shara Cano and Nicolas Garcia) of Fernandina Beach; and a great-granddaughter who carries her name, Alana Ann Clara Spitzform. Also surviving is her husband’s brother and his wife, Preston and Kay Lane; and many nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held Monday, February 7^th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, and will be conducted by her pastor, The Reverend James Spaugh. For her final resting place, she will be placed beside her husband and other family members on the Smith Family Plot in Cedarwood Cemetery.

   Friends are invited to visit with the family in the funeral home the hour prior to services on Monday.
