Christian Rask Fauchald, 54, a beloved member of the Edenton, NC community and a faithful friend to many, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 7, 2023.
He will be remembered for his natural intellect and charm, voracious curiosity, open heart and mind, generous spirit, and unabashed romanticism. Christian was the most generous, sweet, loving and kind man, always lending a helping hand and going above and beyond to help “fix it”.
Born in Bellevue, Washington on April 11, 1968 to Nils and Judy Fauchald, his family moved to Red Wing, Minnesota in 1971 and then onto Hudson, Wisconsin, where he spent most of his youth. A 1986 graduate of Red Wing High School, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout before embarking on an adventurous and wide-ranging career that included stints as a snowboarding instructor, account representative, technology and marketing consultant, executive recruiter, and most recently, restauranteur. For many years he was also a volunteer firefighter.
After caring for his mother in Hudson in her final years, Christian moved to Edenton in 2016 where he purchased a home overlooking the Albemarle Sound and opened his business, “Governor’s Pub”, his “love letter to Edenton” and a very impactful asset to the community.
Never one to be defined by his work, Christian described himself as a “biker, poet, designer, builder, consultant, inventor, philosopher, and entrepreneur”. His love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles took him around the continent and forged many deep kinships with his fellow bikers. With his family he bonded around boating, woodworking, and classic cars, In Edenton he built lasting friendships through the Pub, on the golf course and through supporting local sports teams. Christian carried his dedication to the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers football wherever he resided.
Christian was as proud of his Scandinavian heritage as he was of his Midwestern roots, but he also embraced the culture of his newfound home in North Carolina. In recent years he rededicated himself to the Christian faith with the help of his love, Karla Eure.
Throughout his days, Christian found friends in all corners of the land and all walks of life, and was comfortable debating politics and philosophy as he was discussing the minutiae of engines and carpentry. A naturally gifted writer and poet, his wit and wisdom recalls that of his literary heroes Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway. Of the many epigrams he left behind, one best helps explain his approach to kinship: “Appreciate your similarities with others. They are what make it possible for you to celebrate your differences”.
Members of his family who preceded him in death are his maternal grandparents, Kay and Don Johnson; his mother, Judy Boysen and step-father, Ade Boysen; aunt, Janney Taylor; his paternal grandparents, Edna and Nils Fauchald; and his father, Dr. Nils Fauchald, Jr.
He is survived by his love, Karla Eure of Edenton; sister, Trina Petterson (Todd) of Red Wing; half-brothers, Nick Fauchald (Rotem) of Minneapolis and Jay Fauchald (Donna) of Chaska, MN; half-sisters, Jill Fauchald of Duluth, MN and Jennifer Moeller of Florida; uncle, Don Johnson of Tacoma, WA; uncle, John Taylor (Sonja) of Portland, OR; cousins, Cathy Botz (Pat) of Rochester, MN and John Taylor (Deb) of Hudson; along with the family he gained with Karla, and the many nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country.
A service Celebrating his Life will be held Sunday, January 15th, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton. An additional service is being arranged in his childhood community of Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, please consider giving back to the community by funding a charity, a youth sports team, your church, or anyone who needs the “helping hand” Christian was known for.
