Obituary

*Eure, NC – Cheryl Ann Doughtie, a beloved member of the Eure community, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2026, at the age of 67. Born on November 24, 1958, in Williamson, WV, Cheryl lived a life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering appreciation for nature and family.*

Cheryl was a devoted horticulturist who shared her passion for plants and gardening with everyone around her. Her lifelong career at Roberts Nursery and Landscaping allowed her to touch many lives, both human and botanical. She was known for her green thumb and ability to transform any space into a vibrant, blooming oasis.

Cheryl's love wasn't confined to plants alone; her heart was even more abundant when it came to her family. She is survived by her devoted husband W.T. "Tommy" Doughtie, mother Elizabeth "Beau Beau" Cole, her loving children, daughter Bobbi (Trebor) Buck and son William "Will" (Emma) Doughtie III. Her legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren, Savannah Doughtie, Olivia Buck, and Owen Buck, who brought immense joy to her life.

A devoted sister, Cheryl leaves behind siblings Rhonda Varney, Robert "Bobby" Varney, and Crystal Cole, as well as her lifelong partner, Cecil "Bubba" Brown, and James Cole. Her cousin and lifelong friend, Betty Jo "BJ" Okleshen, will forever hold dear the bond they shared.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, James Varney, and brother Lee Varney. They welcomed her with open arms to the peaceful eternity.

Throughout her life, Cheryl found joy in simple yet profound pleasures. A fervent NASCAR fan and skilled cook, her holiday feasts were particularly memorable, with Halloween being her favorite time of the year. Each year, Cheryl relished in the opportunity to create spooktacular displays and treats for her friends and family. Her love for Hallmark Christmas movies brought her comfort during the winter months, as she settled in to watch tales of love and goodwill.

Cheryl's life was centered around the love and support of her family, including her devoted husband of over 30 years, Tommy Doughtie. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and love.

Cheryl will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to blossom in the gardens she nurtured and the hearts of those she loved.

**Funeral arrangements are being handled by Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Homes & Crematory - Hertford.** Details for the service will be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local gardening organization in Cheryl's memory.
