Chase Matthews Bateman

   Chase Matthews Bateman, 19, of 1036 Pea Ridge Road, Roper, NC, died Tuesday morning, November 9, 2021 in Vidant Medical Center, Greenville.

   Chase was born on October 1, 2002. A lifelong resident of the Pea Ridge community, he was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Bateman; paternal grandmother, Dollie Peede; and by his maternal grandfather, Gerry Phelps.

   A 2021 graduate of John A. Holmes High School in Edenton, he currently worked as an early morning pre-loader with United Parcel Service, and later in the day with C.A Perry & Son at their Hancock location. He attended Rocky Hock Baptist Church.

   Surviving are his parents, Natalie and Michael Phelps of Roper; a sister, Courtney Phelps (Dylan) of Roper; two brothers, Braxton Bateman (Lauren) of Williamston, and Austin Phelps (wife, Vanessa) of Roper; maternal grandmother, Mary Louise Phelps of Edenton; paternal grandparents, Jane and Clyde Suggs of Roper, and Bobby and Ann Phelps of Creswell; a half-sister, Alicia Bateman of Eure; a niece, Blair Bateman, a nephew, Carter Phelps; and several aunts, uncles, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Rusty Womack. The burial will follow in the Harrell Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, and other times at the residence.

   The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Washington County EMS, the East Care Medical Flight Crew, and the Vidant Medical Trauma Team for the care and comfort given to Chase and to them during these difficult days.
