Charles Edward Aswell, 77, suddenly and peacefully, went into the arms of Jesus, July 2, 2025. He was born and raised in Suffolk, the only child of the late Hurley and Helen Aswell. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Christopher Fitzwater, and his grandson, William Carr.
Charles graduated from Whaleyville High School in 1965. He then went to Nashville Auto-Diesel College, later becoming a supervisor at Newport News Shipbuilding while also in the Army National Guard. He started Aswell’s Garage in an old barn and grew it into a successful lawn and garden equipment business. He was also a farmer for over 40 years. He could repair almost anything. It seemed all he had to do was touch it and it was fixed. His favorite things to do included fishing with his buddies, collecting old clocks, and spending time with his wife of 57 years at their second home on the Albemarle Sound. He was a longtime member of the Cypress Ruritan Club and a lifetime member of Eureka Baptist Church, where he served as deacon.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Brenda; his daughters and their husbands, Claire and Mark Tankersley, Amy and Jason Carr, and Crystal and Seth Edwards; his grandchildren, Jonathan and Justin Tankersley, Alayna and Reagan Carr, and Britton, Landon, and Easton Edwards.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at 2:00pm at Eureka Baptist Church, Corapeake, NC. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A time of visitation will follow in the church fellowship hall.
Memorial donations may be made to the Eureka Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 68, Corapeake, NC 27926.
