She was born in Chowan County on November 15th, 1940 to Elton Ray Wilson and Ella Marsha Harrell Wilson. Married to Carl Forehand for 67 years, she said the secret to their long marriage was that they raised each other. Carolyn enjoyed cooking for her friends and family and making crafts. There have been many recipients of her handmade greeting cards.
As a lifelong member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Edenton, NC, Carolyn was involved in many aspects of service. She taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, participated in the Senior Adult Committee, Bereavement Committee, and Ora Harrell Prayer Group. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her teaching Vacation Bible School in the summer. Carolyn was also a member of the Women Mission Union and spoke fondly of her mission trip to Brazil in 1989. She loved the Lord with all her heart.
Carolyn worked in the Chowan Hospital Operating Room for 34 years before working at Eastern Dermatology. She also helped her husband operate Forehand’s Upholstery Shop from their home. Over the years, she made many cakes for a variety of celebrations and was especially well known for her carrot cakes and cheese straws.
Surviving are her husband, Carl Forehand; three sons, Edwin Forehand (Nancy), Wayne Forehand (Laura), and Dwayne Forehand (Madeleine Long, deceased); seven grandchildren, Sarah Wells (Josh), Danny Forehand (Katie), Kristen Parks (Timmy), Melissa Forehand, Rachel Green (Matt), Jeremy Forehand, and Andy Forehand; nine great grandchildren, Jennifer Wells, Tyler Wells, Owen Wells, Corbin Forehand, Evie Forehand, Jacob Parks, Landon Parks, Evan Parks, and Levi Forehand; a brother, Herbert Wilson (Mary); and three sisters, Mildred Boyce, Marguerite Parrish, and Marie Baker. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and daughter in-law, Carolyn was preceded in death by a grandson, Keith Forehand; three sisters, Dorothy Harris, Frances Moore, and Mable Butt; and an infant brother, Raymond Wilson.
The family would like to thank all of the friends that provided meals, transportation, and care over the years while Carolyn’s health deteriorated. A special thank you to her friend, Wendy Modlin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church on Friday, June 19th at 3:00 pm and will be conducted by her pastors, Steve Hill and Bob Young. A private burial will be held at a later date.
