Carolyn Southard Emmert, 86, of 188 Sunset Circle, Hertford, NC, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 in her home with her family at her side.
Carolyn was born in Queens, NY on July 14, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Milton A. and Mary Cecelia Mehling Southard. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Emmert.
A homemaker, in earlier years she was employed as an assistant fabric designer with F. Schumacher & Company in New York City and later worked with a Cadillac dealership on Long Island, NY. A Catholic by faith, she was active with Girl Scouts having been a First Class Scout in her youth and later served as a leader in Girl Scouts. Throughout her life she was always very active and loved to volunteer wherever she could, from serving in PTA while her children were in school to later being involved in various organizations in the community in which she lived.
Surviving are her two daughters, Doreen Antonio of Hertford and Joanne McGowan (husband, Neil) of Wake Forest; her son, Dr. Thomas Emmert (wife, Kimberly) of South Euclid, OH; a sister, Mary Ellen Wohlgemuth (Joel); a brother, William Southard; five grandchildren, Erin, Brian (Rachel), Connor (wife, Nive), Brandon, and Alex; three great-grandchildren, Brennen, Bentley, and Violet; a niece, Sharon (Dan); and a nephew, Michael (Trisha).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ann Catholic Church, 207 N. Broad Street, Edenton. Friends are invited to join the family at 131 Huron Trail, Hertford, immediately following the service to further celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Charity Care Fund, in care of Albemarle Home Care and Hospice, 1507 North Road, Suite 2, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
