Carlton Dail, 78, of Edenton, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Born on October 22, 1947, Carlton was the husband of 60 years to Avis Bunch Dail and the son of Alphonso Henry Dail and Callie Lilly Dail, both deceased. Carlton was a long-time faithful member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Carey Evans Sunday School Class. During his working career, Carlton worked with the United Piece Dye Works, the Harvey Point Defense Testing Base for 24 years, the Albemarle Forest Saw Mill, and Carolina Classic Boats for 11 years. In later years he became the owner and operator of his own lawn care business. Carlton was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and was a member of the Bear Swamp Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Avis; two daughters, Teresa Dail Winebarger and husband, Ricky, and Tami Dail Potts and husband, Randy; three grandchildren, Matthew Winebarger, Michael Winebarger, and Breanna Potts; two sisters, Mary Ann Dail Carter and Caroline Dail Trueblood; one brother, Albert Gene Dail and wife, Karen; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

In addition to his parents, Carlton was preceded in death by his three siblings who passed at a young age, Jack Hardy Dail, Nathan “Amos” Dail, and Dorothy Jean Dail; and two brothers, Jack Hardy Dail and Alphonso Henry Dail.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, Edenton, NC

Funeral services celebrating Carlton’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Rocky Hock Baptist Church, Edenton, NC with Pastor Trey Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at the White Family Cemetery.
