Bob Beaman

   Robert Clarence “Bob” Beaman, 85, of Rock Hill, SC and formerly a longtime resident of Portsmouth, VA and the Arrowhead Beach community of Chowan County, Edenton, NC, died Monday, August 21, 2023 in Piedmont Medical Center in Fort Mill, SC.

   Bob was born in Raleigh, NC on February 21, 1938 and was the son of the late Clarence G. and Ann Smith Beaman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Gay Hemmings Beaman, who died just two years ago.

   A retired Lieutenant with the Portsmouth Police Department where he worked for 30 years, he was a board member of the Fraternal Order of Police and a lifetime member of the Police Association of Virginia. Bob was a member of Rocky Hock Baptist Church and its Adult Choir before moving to South Carolina to be near his son. While living in Portsmouth he and Gay were faithful members of Calvary Baptist Church.

   Surviving is his son, Kris Beaman and wife, Lisa, of Rock Hill; two step-sons, Chris Kirshon of Chesapeake, VA and Sean Kirshon of Norfolk, VA; a brother, Bill Perkowski of Baltimore, MD; a grandson, Justin Beaman, and a step-granddaughter, Katie Workman.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 26th, at 11:00 a.m. in Rocky Hock Baptist Church and will be conducted by Pastor Matthew Dupuy. The entombment at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Suffolk, VA will be private. Friends are invited to visit with the family in the church vestibule immediately following the service.
