Betty Louise Mathias, 83, passed away peacefully on June 16, at the Ahoskie House Assisted Living Facility.

Born August 25, 1942, in Ahoskie, NC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Paul Mathias and Annie Piland Mathias. A member of Winton Baptist Church, Betty found strength and joy in her faith throughout her life.

Betty dedicated many years to caring for others. She worked for many years at Roanoke Chowan Hospital and most recently at a local cancer center, where her kindness and compassion brought comfort to patients and their families during their difficult times.

Survivors include her son, Darrell Thomas Bracy (Amy Bryant Bracy); grandchildren, Emily Bracy Bryant (Bradley Bryant) and Hunter Thomas Bracy (Jennifer Humphrey Bracy); and four great-grandchildren, Barrett and Bennett Bryant, and Ruby and Opal Bracy.

Betty’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her family to her beloved dogs , Anna and Heidi , who brought warmth and laughter to her home.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Marie Benthall and Jeanette Mathias, and her longtime companion, Johnny Reid of Harrellsville.

A private family celebration of life will be held at a future date.
