Betty Jean Bryant Melton

Betty Jean Bryant Melton, age 79, passed away May 28, 2026 at her home in Chowan County, NC.

Betty was born in Prince William County, VA on January 20, 1947, and was the daughter of the late Dolly Bryant and Mary Virginia Jewell.

Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Velma Bryant, Donnie Bryant, and Sheila Bryant; and her son, John Michael Mick, who sadly passed away very shortly after Betty. As well as her grandson Steven Paul Norcross, Jr., and great-granddaughter, Emberly Jayde Schwarm.

Betty is survived by her long term significant other, John Stanley White; children Tammy Norcross, Donald Mick, Brittany Mick (Hunter), and Roger Mick; step children, Stacey Gorden White, Kristy Lynn Henning, James Patrick White, and JoAnn Patricia White; siblings, Sheila McSwain (Bill), Harriet Bryant, Haywood Bryant, and Bucky Bryant (Jean); 13 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Betty’s family said to know Betty was to love her, she was the life of any party and was always ready to have a good time. Cookouts with family and friends, margaritas at Mexican restaurants, and Christmas time are just a few fond memories everyone gets to hold onto. Betty Loved all things unicorns, Betty Boop, and Harry Potter. You could always find her with a book in her hand if she had free time. She always had an open seat at her table for anyone who needed it, extra cards to whip out at a moment's notice, and extra Christmas gifts. Her smile could light up a room and her attitude could set someone on fire.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 8, 2026 at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home in Edenton, NC.
