Beryl Alexander Facey

Beryl Alexander Facey, 82, of Hertford, NC, passed away Friday, December 3, 2021 in Greenville, NC following a seventeen year battle with Leukemia.

Mrs. Facey was born in Mitcham, England on August 4, 1939, where she was also educated. She was the youngest daughter of the late Thomas and Edith Alexander, formerly of England.

On September 23, 1967, she married Terence Facey at Peacehaven Parish Church, Peacehaven, East Sussex, England and emigrated to the United States October 24, 1967, becoming a U.S. Citizen June 18, 1976. Having lived in Danbury and New Fairfield, CT until May 2002, she then retired to Albemarle Plantation in Hertford.

Active in the Girl Guides in England, she helped her sister, Olive, run the 2nd Saltdean Guides for a few years prior to moving to the US. Employed by Marcus Dairy upon initially moving to the US, she took time to raise her daughter and then later worked at St. James Church in their office, and at Wooster School as the Book Store Manager.

Upon retirement, she became an avid bocce player, winning several Senior Games tournaments over the years. She also enjoyed knitting, traveling with her husband, family and friends around much of the World, and playing golf on the Sound Links Golf Course. She loved helping others and volunteered with the Plantation's Learn to Sail program, the Osprey Yacht Club regattas, the Newcomers Club, the Periauger restoration and at the Newbold-White House.

Surviving are her daughter, Karen Petersen and her husband, Justin, of Citra, FL; and two grandchildren, Taylor and Devin Alward, of New Fairfield, CT. Also surviving are a brother-in-law, Derek Facey, and wife, Janet, of Australia; a niece and two nephews of England, and three nieces and a nephew of Australia, along with their children. She also leaves many friends in Hertford who were instrumental in her being able to live independently the past couple of years and remain in the community she loved, as was her team of medical professionals.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Olive and Patricia.
