Benjamin G. Hernandez, 82, of Middletown, DE passed away April 16, 2026 at his home.
Benjamin was born in Corsicana, TX on April 21, 1943 and was the son of the late Luis C. Hernandez and Marta G. Hernandez.
Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Sandra White Hernandez.
Benjamin is survived by his stepchildren; Phillip J. Scalzi (Sharon Scalzi) of Newark, DE, Barb Scalzi (Tom Hahn) of Middletown, DE and Patrick J. Scalzi of Manassas, VA; brother, Luis C. Hernandez (Hyon Jung) of Austin, TX; brother in law, William White of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Michael, Emma, Jessica, Shaun, Sophia, Mckenzie and Olivia; seven great grandchildren, Audrey, Elenor, Phineous, Eowyn, Juniper, Phillip and Phoebe; and nieces, Mita, Ginny, Elena, Anna and Angie of TX.
He was a gentle and quiet man of deep faith, devoted to his family and generous with his time, wisdom, and resources. A lifelong lover of baseball, he especially cheered for the Washington Nationals, and he had a passion for classic country music, particularly the songs of Dottie West, Connie Smith, and George Jones. He cherished movies like Patton and enjoyed Spaghetti Westerns starring Randolph Scott. Proudly Texan, he loved family gatherings, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, supporting A&M women’s volleyball, following the Texas Longhorns, and savoring the barbecue at County Line Restaurant. A voracious reader, he instilled a love of books in his nieces and grandchildren, and he enjoyed chess, jigsaw puzzles, and delving into Civil War and World War II history. He served honorably in the Air Force and lived a life marked by kindness and a love for family.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 4, 2026 at Beaver Hill Cemetery, 476 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Edenton, NC 27932.
