Barbara Huddleston Mathias

   Barbara Louise Huddleston Mathias, 82, of 455 Willeyton Road, Gates, NC, died Friday, September 8, 2023 in her home.

   Mrs. Mathias was born in Charleston, West Virginia on May 1, 1941. She and her late husband were the owners and operators of Tip’s Store, a local landmark and community grocery store located at the Willeyton and Medical Center roads intersection in Gates County. Enjoyments included what she called, “I’m just pilfering”, as she colored pictures and painted with water colors.

   Preceded in death by her husband, George S. “Tip” Mathias, she is survived by her children, Rodney Newhouse of Gates, Tina Adams of Eure, Timmy Newhouse of Defuniak Springs, FL, and Bruce Newhouse of Richmond, VA; a step-daughter, Marie Renninger of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Julia Merriman, Mildred Renninger, Eddie and Heather Bero, Elizabeth, Megan and Allison Adams, and Michael and Jordan Mann; and several great-grandchildren, including Ava, Taliyah, and Jeremiah.

   In accordance with her wishes, a private service is planned and she will be buried with her husband at Eureka Baptist Church Cemetery in Corapeake.
