Obituary

Audrey Smith Holland Jackson, 93, of Gates, NC passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

Born on January 16, 1933, Audrey was the wife of 71 years to the late Charlie Mac Jackson and the daughter of Howard Virginius Holland, Sr. and Ima Smith Holland, both deceased. In addition to her husband and parents, Audrey was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin C. Holland and Howard V. Holland, Jr.; and son-in-law, James Hancock, Jr.

Audrey graduated from Holland High School in 1950 and attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro, NC. In her early years, she was employed by Nansemond Grocery Co. in Suffolk, VA. She was a member of Savages Methodist Church, Gates, NC where she played the piano for many years, served on the Administrative Council, and on various committees. Audrey was also a past member of the Women's Society where she served in several positions.

Survivors include her daughter, Becky J. Hancock; two sons, Gary Jackson and wife, Tricia, and Richie Jackson; six grandchildren, Ryan Milteer and wife, Melissa, Matt Jackson and wife, Caroline, Jimmie Hancock, Philip Jackson and wife, Kaitlin, Kate Cassidy and husband, Camron, and Luke Jackson; six great grandchildren, Seth Bishop, Jackson Milteer, Holly Jackson, Reade Jackson, Wyatt Cassidy, and Owen Jackson; and sister-in-law, Ellis Holland.

A memorial service celebrating Audrey’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at Savage’s Methodist Church, Gates, NC with Pastor Doug Lilley officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service with a reception in the fellowship hall. Inurnment will be private at the Jackson Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Savage’s Methodist Church, Perpetual Fund, 331 Hazelton Road, Gates, NC 27937.
