Annie Smith Hughes

   Annie Ruth Smith Hughes, 71, of 127 Capehart Church Road, died Sunday, November 7, 2021 in her home.

   Mrs. Hughes was born on May 5, 1950, and was the daughter of the late David Lawrence and Edna Ruth Spruill Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Sidney Hughes; and by brothers, Lawrence Minton Smith and David Early Smith.

   A retired poultry farmer, she was a member of Capehart’s Baptist Church where she played a major role in the Crafters Plus Missions Ministry (formerly known as the Quilting Cut-Ups).

   Surviving are her daughter, Jennifer Evans (husband, Henry) of Merry Hill; three sisters, Mary Belangia and Joyce White, both of Edenton, and Louise Bunch of Hertford; a brother, Walter Smith of Edenton; four granddaughters, Hanna (husband, David), Jada, Leah, and Haley; and a great-grandson, Levi.

   Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Capehart’s Baptist Church Cemetery, and will be conducted by Pastor Stanley Hare. Friends may visit with the family at the graveside immediately following the service, or all other times at Henry and Jennifer’s home, 313 Capehart Church Road, Merry Hill.
