Ann Elizabeth Ford Madre, 85, of Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026.
Born May 7, 1940, in Fair Bluff, North Carolina, Mrs. Madre was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and faithful member of her church community. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, traveling with her husband, and shopping for unique finds to decorate her home, especially for the holidays.
She dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a business teacher at both the high school and community college levels. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and positively influenced the lives of many students throughout her career.
A longtime member of Hertford United Methodist Church, Mrs. Madre was actively involved where she served on the Administrative Board, participated in numerous leadership committees, and was a member of the Minnie Wilson Circle.
Mrs. Madre is survived by her husband, Edward Lee Madre; two daughters, Leanne Madre and husband, Richard Soderberg, of Bellevue, Washington, and Virginia Punsalan and husband, Nick, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Melina and Kelly Punsalan of Charlottesville, Virginia. Mrs. Madre was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Paul Ford and Kathryn Floyd Ford, her brother, Kenneth Ford, and her son, Edward Lee Madre, Jr.
A visitation will be held Monday, April 27, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, NC. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Hertford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Mrs. Madre. Online condolences may be made at www.millerfhc.com.
