Alene Dale Briggs Hollowell

   Alene Dale Briggs Hollowell, 98, formerly of Tyner, NC and more recently of Boca Raton, Florida, died there on Friday, February 10, 2023.

   Mrs. Hollowell was born in Chowan County on November 29, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Herbert W. and Nettie Jordan Dale. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Allen L. “A.L.” Briggs, Jr. in 1991, and by L. Jake Hollowell in 2008; and by her son, Allen D. Briggs in 2013.

   A homemaker, in earlier years she had worked as a driver with the Princess Anne and Norfolk County School Systems in Virginia, and as a loom tender with the George C. Moore Company in Edenton. She also worked as a produce farmer alongside her husband, A.L. Before moving to Boca Raton to be close to her son and his family, she was a faithful member of both Center Hill Baptist Church and the Chowan Ruritan Club.

   Surviving is her son, R. Wayne Briggs (wife, Ingrid) of Boca Raton; her daughter-in-law, Valerie Briggs of Canton, NC; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Jake’s children and their families, Pat Hensley and Roy Hollowell of Williamsburg, VA and Tom Hollowell of Cary, NC, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 18^th at 11:00 a.m. in Center Hill Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, The Reverend Russell Blanchard. A private burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home & Crematory, 735 Virginia Road, Edenton, or in the church community hall immediately following the service on Saturday.
