Thomas Carroll Layden

   Thomas Carroll Layden, 97, of 204 Saunders Street, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 in Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, Elizabeth City.

   Mr. Layden was born in Perquimans County on June 13, 1918, and was the son of the late Thomas Parker and Luna Winslow Layden. A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he spent his professional career in both the automotive and real estate industries. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Livingston Layden.

   Surviving are his three sons, Thomas Layden (Colleen) of Wilmington, David Layden (Melissa) of Latrobe, PA, and William Layden (Tina) of Ligonier, PA; a sister, Velma Owens of Hertford; and nine grandchildren.

   A private memorial service will be held. Miller & Van Essendelft, Funeral and Cremation Providers, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford, is assisting the family with arrangements.
